What the heck is new literacy??? Good question! New literacy is interpreting the words and images that we encounter in a tech driven world. The links below will allow anyone to creatively produce their ideas and thoughts. Most sites are free and are indicated so with (free) in parentheses after the sites description. Some sites have pro accounts that will cost money and thus are indicated by (pro) after the description. If you do see (Pay) after the description it means there are no free services and you will have to buy the program.

Free Play Music
Free Play music offers music files that are searchable by feel or theme. Most of these files do not have vocals. (Free) Shock Wave Sound Thousands of Royalty Free, Stock Music, and sound effect files. (Free/Pro) OpSound This site offers tons of music files created by members on their computer. (Free) Record This site allows you to easily record a video or audio file that can be used in a presentation or really, however you want. (Free) Online Audio Editor Check out this site if you need to edit an audio file by cutting it down or adding some effects. (Free) SoundCloud Another site that allows you to record, store, and share your own audio files. SoundCloud also allows you to comment on files as well. (Free) Not Sure

Diggo allows you to comment, highlight, and save files that you are working with on the internet. This is a must have tool for anyone researching on the web. (Free) VIDquik There are many programs that allow you to video chat on your computer and VIDquik is one of these. What sets it apart is your ability to video chat and share presentation slides at the same time as you conference with your peers. (Free) Animation

(Free) Go Animate Go animate is an online program that allows you to create your own animated cartoons. (Free/Pro) Blabberize Similar to Voki, this site allows you to add a voice to any picture file that you have. You also create a mouth for the picture that makes it look as if the subject in the picture is talking. (Free) Professor Garfield Comic Lab Enjoy creating your own comic strips with this easy to use program. (Free) Comic Life Now available for Windows and Mac! This downloadable program lets you create your own full length comic book with picture files on your computer. (Pay) Dvolver It may not offer the most options but Dvolver is another site that allows its users to create their own animated video. (Free) Xtranormal One of the best sites for being in the director's chair of an animated video. Choose your settings, characters, camera angles, and dialogue. (Free/Pro) Make Beliefs Comix Another site that offers different options for creating a comic with pre-drawn scenes and characters. (Free) Pixton Pixton may be one of the better comic creators online. There are many options to edit the pre-created characters and settings. (Free) ToonDoo Yet another amazing tool for generating comics. Like Pixton this comic creator offers more freedom with your creations. (Free) DoInk At one point was an online program but it has now been moved to the mobile Apple products. If you own one though this is an amazing tool for drawing and creating your own animations. (Pay) Chogger Another online comic creator. What is great about this and sets it apart from the others is the ability to draw your own comics from scratch rather than being limited by the pre-made templates on the others. (Free) |

(Free) Youtube One of the largest collections of videos available to internet users. Not only can you search for videos but you can share your own creations. (Free) The Mad Video This is a wonderful tool for creating interactive videos. As the viewer watches the video they are able to click on icons that explains information not portrayed in the video Teachertube Very similar to youtube but the focus of these videos is on education. (Free) Vimeo Another collection of videos with a focus on sharing your own videos that you have filmed. (Free/Pro) Jing Jing is an amazing tool that can be used to record interactive videos. Want to show people how to do something on the computer? Use Jing to record a walk through guide for your viewers. Creaza An educational tool that allows you to create and share digital stories. (Pay) Flix Time Another tool for creating videos using your clips, music, and pictures. (Free/Pro) WeVideo A user friendly online video editor that is said to be a combination of animoto and iMovie. (Free/Pro) Pixorial A user friendly way to edit and share your videos you have filmed and created. (Free) Tube Chop This useful site allows you to cut a youtube video if you only want to use a certain section of it. (Free) YouCube This interesting site allows you to create a cube with youtube videos attached to each side. It may be an interesting way to present multiple videos related to each other. Prezi is a wonderful way to create a presentation that is visually appealing and enjoyable. (Free) Lucid Chart It is all in the name. This amazing site allows you to make all types of charts for all sorts of reasons. Use them to study or wow your audience for a presentation. (Free/Pro) Voice Thread Allows you to have an online conversation with a group about a document, video, or picture. (Free) Board 800 Board 800 is an online white board that can be used to plan or study with a group of peers online. (Free/Pro) Marqueed Online program that allows you to share a document and write comments on it. (Free) Dropr Create a media portfolio online where you can store videos, pictures, and files that can then be used to create presentations. (Free) Realtime Board Brainstorming can be a valuable tool and now you can do it online. Realtime Board allows you to type, draw, and post pictures to an online board for brainstorming by yourself or with a group. (Free) Big Marker Similar to Realtime Board this site also offers a virtual white board for you to brainstorm with peers. However you can also chat via video and text at the same time. |

(Free) PicMonkey PicMonkey is a user friendly online program that allows you to create picture collages and professionally edit your photographs. (Free) PIXLR Similar to adobe photoshop this site gives you numerous options to edit your photographs. (Free) Fotor A quick and easy way to edit photos. You can even edit a photo without creating an account. A positive with this site is it can be used on any device. (Free) LunaPic Another photo editor that allows you to edit photos for Tumblr, Twitter, and Facebook. (Free) Be Funky A user friendly photo editor that encourages the user to spice up their photos. (Free) Photovisi This photo collage creator gives you more freedom then others with a blank canvas to use rather than pre-made templates. (Free) Photo Tricks Different from other photo editors, this site allows you to add special effects to spice up your photos. (Free) Phrase.it This site is similar to instagram with the photo editing tools but it also allows you to add speech bubbles to your pictures. Glogster Sick of boring poster boards. Glogster allows you to create an online interactive poster. (Free) Fakebook Facebook can be educational...sort of. Fakebook is a site (not associated with facebook) that essentially is used by students to create a fake facebook page for fictional characters from books or important figures throughout history. (Free) Glossi - Make Magazines Create your own magazine. You can add pictures, text, and video to your online magazine. (Free) Museum Box Museum Box allows you to pick a topic and put important artifacts and information in a box for that topic. (Free) Animoto Animoto takes pictures you choose and creates a wonderfully designed video presentation with them. (Free/Pro) Meograph This amazing tool enables you to create a presentation using google maps, videos, text, and audio! Dipity Create amazing and interactive timelines. Not only can you make a cool looking timeline but you can add video and audio to it as well. (Free) MyHistro A tmeline builder and map creator all rolled into one, what could be better? (Free) XTimeline Not only can you create a multimedia timeline online but you can collaborate with group members while you do it. (Free) TimeGlider Another timeline creator this site offers some different features that the others do not. Such as indenting events under each other to create sub events.
